                    Walt Disney Company, NY

The Walt Disney Company recently completed their New York City headquarters at 7 Hudson Square. The Robert A. Iger Building brings The Walt Disney Company's news, editorial, live productions, streaming services and more under one roof. SAS worked closely with fit-out architect Gensler, providing solutions throughout the workplace and amenity spaces.

Within ‘The Great Room’ or Mixing Chamber, the brief and rendering (shown above) was to provide a corrugated, wood look, accessible and acoustic beam encasement. This contains the buildings structure as well as a host of mechanical and electrical services.

The panels were microperforated over the whole face, so as to appear unperforated when viewed from the floor, and to maximize the impact of the dye sublimated wood grain finish. The panels were supplied complete with high performance acoustic infills to satisfy the acoustic demands of the space and are fully accessible with hinging access panels in specific locations.

This scope was then complimented by plain white hook-on wall panels that run perpendicularly to the beam
encasements. The final outcome was virtually identical to the Gensler rendering while providing the acoustic and access specifications required.

Throughout the other workspaces in the building, SAS130 expanded metal mesh rafts were employed in a range of configurations, finished in both black and white. The unique ladder styling of the rafts featured integrated lighting, an exposed grid system and a floating edge trim.

With a generally open concept, workplace strategy director, Johnathan Sandler from Gensler explained, "We did not want the aesthetics to overpower this platform for creativity."

This new building is all-electric which aims to be LEED Platinum and cut carbon emissions to 50 percent of New York's strict Local Law 97 carbon-emission limit. SAS's commitment to sustainability was the perfect partner to help accomplish the Disney organization's 2030 environmental goals.

SAS worked alongside the general contractor, Structure Tone, and a number of their appointed carpenters, delivering multiple packages throughout the building.
